*Marvel's Wolverine* is ready to unsheathe its claws.

Insomniac Games unveiled a blood-drenched new trailer for the highly anticipated video game from the makers of the popular *Marvel's Spider-Man* and *Marvel's Spider-Man 2*.

Prospective players really haven't received much of an update in the four years since the title was announced, but Wednesday's PlayStation State of Play livestream brought way more footage and a behind-the-scenes video with devs that reveal a truckload of intel. That includes who's playing Mr. James Logan Howlett.

Beloved *Spartacus* star Liam McIntyre voices and plays (through performance capture) the title role. "Fans out there know what Wolverine is, who he is. My job is to try to find the essence of who Wolverine is, especially as it applies to our story," McIntyre said in the video. "People hurt him, take from him, people betray him. He still fights for people who can't fight for themselves."

The gameplay trailer also reveals familiar X-Men characters will be popping up. Confirmed are the shapeshifting Mystique, the brutish Omega Red, at least one giant mutant-hunting Sentinel, and military organization the Reavers.

The official PlayStation blog also gives the broad strokes of the story. "He is on the hunt to uncover the secrets of a dark past that keeps eluding him," reads a blog post. "Unfortunately, in this world, he'll have to dig his claws deep to pull any shred of information that may lead to answers. Often, that means shredding into a relentless onslaught of enemies who aim to stop him by any means necessary."

*Marvel's Wolverine* will take players to the island nation of Madripoor, the frosted wilderness of Canada, and the narrow city streets of Tokyo in Logan's search for answers.

The biggest reveal, however, comes in the form of bloodshed. There's one moment in the trailer that shows Wolverine slashing an enemy with multiple cuts before shoving his claws straight through his skull, confirming this game is going to embrace the violence and berserker rage of this character.

"The question that comes up a lot to us at Insomniac Games is, 'Are you going to make a Wolverine game that is as violent, as visceral as the character in the comics?'" creative director Marcus Smith says in the behind-the-scenes video. The short answer is yes!

*Marvel's Wolverine* will be available on PlayStation 5 consoles in fall 2026. Watch the reveals above.
