- *Harry Potter* actress Miriam Margolyes says she wants medically assisted death if her health fails.

- The 84-year-old said that she doesn't want to go through "diminishing period" of pain late in life.

*Harry Potter* franchise actress and* The Age of Innocence* star Miriam Margolyes is sharing that if her health fails later in life, she'd like to die with medical assistance.

The 84-year-old British-Australian performer recently told the *Daily Mail* that she doesn't want to suffer through age-related health conditions in the future, and that she'd rather die with help from doctors than endure the alternative.

"I don't want to go through a slowly diminishing period of pain and embarrassment," Margolyes said in the interview, which was pegged to her upcoming book *The Little Book of Miriam*.

She added that, "If a stroke meant I couldn't speak, or I was doubly incontinent, or I lost my mind completely, I would ask to be put down" via medically assisted death.

"That's because I want to be who I am," Margolyes, who portrayed Professor Sprout in the *Harry Potter *films, continued. "I don't want to be less than I can be."

Speaking on other health-related matters, including whether or not she'd be interested in going on Ozempic, the popular prescription drug often used to aid in weight loss, Margolyes was more critical of her industry peers.

"Absolutely not. That's for diabetics. You shouldn't take medicine meant for people who are really sick," the actress stressed. "What I do think is we should not have food advertising on television."

Margolyes is known for her sharp wit and bold candor, which has led to the reveal of several comical memories from her past as an actress.

In 2023, she released a statement expressing excitement over the fact that she got to act in the legendary sci-fi series* Doctor Who *while she was still alive to enjoy it.

"I'm relieved I got to work on *Doctor Who* before I died," Margolyes' statement read. "With sci-fi you never know. Thank you for making an old woman very happy."

In July 2022, the entertainer recalled on the *I've Got News for You* podcast that Arnold Schwarzenegger used to fart in her face while they were making the 1999 movie *End of Days*.

"He farted in my face. Now, I fart, of course I do – but I don't fart in people's faces," Margolyes said at the time. "He did it deliberately, right in my face."
